Why Is Marijuana Illegal?

Question by cjgoeswild69: why is marijuana illegal?
I was just wondering if anyone has any insight as to why marijuana is illegal, when tobacco kills far more people, than weed, and so does alcohol. beer can alter your thinking just as much, if not more than pot, I just wanted to know why the govt is concerned about weed when there are far worse drugs out there.

At this point I am thinking to keep the money coming into the police forces and contractors that service the prison industrial complex.
