I used to take 1 mg xanax a day. I cold turkeyed xanax after taking it for 4 months. My last dose was on April 24,2011, and it’s been almost 2 months now since I last took my last pill of the evil drug. Now my question is, how long do I have to wait before I feel any relief? I have a lot of symptoms, and the insomnia is worst than ever. Please I need help. Thank you so much,

That’s not much and not that long use of Xanax. Sounds like u need to at least be on an anti depressant and get a therapist. Xanax wont really help much ure smart for quiting. Good luck

Xanax (Alprazolam) is an anxiolitic medicine, and the best way to wean out of any of these medications is to taper them. If you are feeling very uncomfortable, then you can start it again with 0.5 mg first and continue for a month, and then reduce it to 0.25 mg per day for a month, and then 0.25 mg every days etc and ultimately stop.
At the same time, you can do some breathing exercise. Take a deep breath slowly and hold it for a count of say 5 seconds, and exhale slowly taking out all the breath out of your lungs by even bending, and hold it for 5 seconds, and do this again for about ten minutes.
Try and see a hypnotherapist who could help you get out of these anxiety symptoms if you were diagnosed with anxiety.
Also, you should have given your age, sex, general family issues, stress issues, employment details etc for someone to get a bit more intelligent answer. Without these, we are groping in the dark…
